Sponsor A Child Programme
Without a doubt, ACS Independent has been continually blessed through the years. Our students experience a stellar education at a premier institution, which aims to meet each student’s needs.
Not every child however, is as fortunate. A meal a day for millions of children is a luxury, as is the ability to afford clothing and shelter. As a society we are well aware of the fact that while we live in relative comfort, there are countless others out there who struggle to make ends meet.
The Sponsor A Child Programme by WorldVision aims to alleviate this situation. The essential idea is to engage individuals in developed countries to take up sponsorship of children in backward nations. The sponsorship costs S$45 a month, and covers the costs for the child’s education, sanitation, housing and daily meals. It is a long term commitment aimed at allowing children living in poverty to realize the full potential of life, and simultaneously prove to the world that individuals can make a difference for the better.
That is the kind of experience the 4th Student Council aims to provide the IB cohort. Our idea was for the graduating batch of 2010 to embark on sponsorship, with each class sponsoring a single child. After our graduation, hopefully, our junior cohort will take on the responsibility, and so the opportunity is passed down through several cohorts, until the child no longer needs aid.
We are glad to announce that every class in our level opted to take up sponsorship. We would like to acknowledge their efforts, and encourage any other willing individuals within the school to embark on this journey with us. It’s time to see real, positive change occurring due to our very own efforts. It is time to believe, and be inspired.
