ACS Remembers March 1st

ACSians waiting eagerly for the parade to commence.

ACS (Independent) celebrated its 108th Founder's Day with the usual pomp and polish. But this year's festivity was special - it was followed by the Dedication Service of the school in the Tan Chin Tuan Auditorium.

The day started off with trumpeters sounding the bugle call for all students to stand at attention at the parade ground. The Right Markers of the various UYO contingents fell into their respective places. This was followed by the marching in of the UYOs consisting of the Boys Brigade, St Johns, Scouts, NPCC and NCC, air and land.

The Guard-of-Honour, dressed especially smart in their white and blue uniform, marched into the parade ground with their rifles. The white Mercedes carrying our Guest-of-Honour, Bishop Ho Chee Sin, made its way to the front of the parade square.

The Parade Commander then gave orders for the traditional general salute followed by the National Anthem. After that, our Head Prefect led us in the pledge. The Parade Commander then invited Bishop Ho Chee Sin to inspect the Guard-of-Honour.

To conclude the parade, the UYOs marched past the guests who applauded enthusiastically. The ACS band and the Boys Brigade bagpipers provided the atmosphere. Every aspect of the parade ran like clock work and the ACS band was wonderful.

After the parade, all of us proceeded to the auditorium for the Dedication Service. The service began with spirited fan-fare furnished by the band and a procession of various representatives from the UYOs, Prefectorial Board and teacher's body. The ACS Band, String Ensemble and ACS Choir provided a brilliant performance before Bishop Ho gave the message. In it, he stressed on the importance of being a well-rounded student. After the singing of the hymns, Dr Lee Suan Yew proceeded with the act of presenting Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) to be dedicated to the Glory of God, and to the purpose of worship, fellowship, study and service. The dedication was given by Bishop Ho Chee Sin which was followed by the unveiling of the dedication plague.

Finally, Dr Ong stepped out to give the much anticipated report on the 1993 GCE 'O' Level results. It was announced that the boys of '93 had done very well and much better than the '92 cohort. During the presentation of academic awards, we saw familiar faces from the 1993 and 1992 Secondary Four students. These students had done well and excelled in specific subjects which deserved recognition, especially our Seow Poh Leng medallist Lo Tong Jen.

After the singing of the school anthem, Bishop Ho gave the final dedication which ended the service.
