It was an exciting day on 17 February 1994 as a group of students from class 2C4 went on a Pastoral Care visit to the Lee Kong Chian Gardens School.
On arrival, they were warmly welcomed by the mentally challenged children and the social workers. Very soon, all the students took the assignment of accompanying at least one of the many handicapped children present. Some crowded together, waiting to be told what to do, while others like Robbie Leong, Matthew Tsui and Mark Chen went to the children willingly without being told to.
Going out on all fours.
As the afternoon progressed, the boys started to play games such as 'Musical Chairs' and 'Pass the Parcel' with the children, after which, the children were treated to a performance by our choir and actors. They sang the song 'Old MacDonald' while the actors acted as the animals in the farm. The children squealed with delight and joy as they enjoyed themselves very much.
Playing musical chairs with our friends.
Lastly, our choir sang the song "Heal the World" as their last item for the children. Then, the boys left in the evening, tired, their efforts of cheering and brightening the children's day certainly rewarded. Said Mr Steven Ng, the Form and Pastoral Care teacher of class 2C4, "This programme helps the boys to see that there are people who are less privileged than us. Our duty as normal people is to reach out our hands to them, to lessen their sufferings and loneliness, to let them know that there are still people who really care for them."
